Ch Victory of Pocono CDX

History

Ch Victory of Pocono CDX was a sable dog bred by Elizabeth Whelen, by Ch Merrymaker of Pocono ROM out of the oversized bitch Sunny Girl of Anahassitt. He was whelped September 1, 1942 and took Best of Breed at the ASSA 1942 National Specialty. He was Line CHE Part I and Family 2 Part V.

Victory finished before he was 8 months old but continued to grow, winding up at 16 3/4 inches. While there was no actual disqualification for size, the standard of the time asked for 12 to 15 inches, and Victory moved into the then-new sport of obedience. Betty Whelen describes him as one of her best workers, but added he usually made one glaring mistake that kept him out of the ribbons. He was also active as a sire in spite of his size, producing a number of offspring behind today's lines::

Probably the most important of these was Ch Bogota Blaze, the sire of Ch Sheltieland Kiltie o'Sea Isle.
