Ch Wee Laird o'Downfield

Contribution to later Shelties

Ch Wee Laird o'Downfield was the single most important import behind the Shetland Sheepdog breed in the United States, and even has some influence in Great Britain through descendants of his grandson who was exported back to Great Britain, Am Ch Sheltieland Laird o'Page's Hil. Sheltieland Laird was the great great grandsire of Helensdale Mhairi Dhu, the dam of Eng Ch Alasdair of Tintobank. At the present time, it is unclear whether the Wee Laird's influence will be outstripped by that of his descendant, Ch Halstors Peter Pumpkin ROM.

The table below gives the percent influence of the Wee Laird on each of the Shetland Sheepdogsto earn the Register of Merit, as well as the number of times the Wee Laird appeared in the pedigree. There are undoubtedly dogs alive today with the Wee Laird in their pedigrees over a million times. Note that the Wee Laird is behind all but one of all of the Shelties to earn the ROM.
