Ch Bil-Bo-Dot Blue Flag of Pocono CD ROM

Blue Flag's story started when Betty Whelen purchased his dam, Penstemon of Beech Tree, back from Ruth Taynton of Beech Tree, who had bought her from Betty as a puppy. Betty bred Penstemon to Ch Merry Meddler of Pocono CDX ROM and shipped her, in whelp, to Bil-Bo-Dot Kennels (Mr. McLaughlin) in California. The litter was born July 21, 1938. By the time Blue Flag was six months old, Mr. McLaughlin was wanting to concentrate more on his sable lines, so Betty repurchased both Penstemon and her blue merle son. Thus although Blue Flag and his dam both carried the prefixes of other kennels, both were in fact of pure Pocono breeding, as can be seen from his pedigree.

Betty described Blue Flag thus:
"He had a lovely head and well-shaped eyes that could have been darker, and his ears, while well-placed, were always a problem and difficult to keep over. He was a very sound, excellent mover and beautifully marked and colored with a lovely harsh textured coat." She also stated that his temperament was not suitable for obedience, and that he would wander off when away from home.

He was the first third-generation ROM, siring 14 Champions. He is Line CHE Part I and Family 1.
