History of Am/Can Ch Rocket of Exford

Am/Can Ch Rocket of Exford was by far the most successful of the English imports following World War II. He was a tricolor dog, bred by Mrs. Sangster of the Exford Shelties in England and whelped June 11, 1949. Mr. And Mrs. Nile Jacobs obtained him at under a year of age, and his US registration appears in the April 1950 AKC Stud Book.

Rocket was heavily linebred on the Chestnut cross through Nut of Houghton Hill and especially Nut's inbred son, Eng Ch Uam Var of Houghton Hill. He was Line CHE Part III and Family 4. He was thus more closely related to the prewar imports than were the majority of the postwar English lines, and seemed to blend in better with their descendants than did the BB-line dogs beginning to dominate English breeding. He comes into modern ROM pedigrees primarily through Ch Kawartha's Sabrina Fair ROM and Lochelven's Reverie (each 25% Rocket) to Ch Halstors Peter Pumpkin ROM. who was over 6% Rocket
