History of Ch Kawartha's Sabrina Fair ROM
Ch Kawartha's Sabrina Fair ROM was a sable and white bitch bred by Dr. and Mrs. W. R. Kavanaugh. She was whelped May 9, 1955 from the breeding of Ch Teaberry Lane's Little Pecos to Miss Ruffles of Oak-Lawn. Although a three-generation pedigree does not link her to the older ROM lines, the Oak Lawn bitches, especially Sabrina, play an important role in today's top pedigrees. Ch Sea Isle Rhapsody of Halstor, Peter's dam, traced tail female to Ch Daphne of Oak-Lawn. Sabrina herself produced 5 Champions including 2 extremely important Register of Merit Shelties: Ch Kawartha's Match Maker ROM, who was the linchpin of the Marjan and Crawford lines, and Ch Kawartha's Fair Game ROM, the dam of five Champions and the great non-champion ROM, Fair Play of Sea Isle ROM. Fair Play, as the sire of both Ch Halstors Peter Pumpkin ROM (160 Champions) and Ch Romayne's Sportin' Life ROM (56 Champions), has had an indelible impact on the breed. It is worth noting also that Ch Rocket of Exford is one of a handful of Shelties imported from the British Isles since World War II to have a serious impact on modern American pedigrees, and this is the line through which Rocket's influence carries down.
